The Brown Palace Hotel was Denver’s jewel of the West. It opened in 1892 and is still in business today. This palate cleanser was served between courses.
2 cups water
1 cup Madeira or port wine
1/2 cup brandy
Juice of 1 1/2 lemons
2 cups sugar
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and stir until the sugar dissolves. Pour into a container that will go into the freezer. Freeze overnight.
